2020, a number representing perfect vision, has started off as a very interesting year so far, giving us glimpses of the dystopian future awaiting us if we continue focusing on fear, distancing, isolation, and the media propaganda that is designed to divide and distract us. I believe the first five months of this year will inspire us to focus on more utopian principles like unity and teamwork moving forward. I have many memories of teamwork making the dream work in my life, and here is one of the most memorable.
I started my last corporate job back in 2012 at the same time as another new hire. We were calling on companies in the same industry, and our manager tasked us with meeting a certain influencer to secure a seat on an industry related board. My colleague got the meeting first and secured a seat on the Board for our company. I took my colleague to lunch to ask if he wanted to partner up and work every deal as a team since we were working in the same industry. He responded, “No, I’m taking the Board Seat, and we’ll find another place to get you plugged-in.” A female colleague was hired shortly after us who was in danger of losing her job for not closing a sale in her first 90 days. I gave her a one of my deals that had already been signed to extend her time with the company, and offered her the same opportunity to work every deal together as a team. She accepted! Long story short, we spent an all-expense paid week in Hawaii at the Maui Ritz-Carlton, while our colleague, who had rejected the invitation to work as a team, had to stay home and work, while we played on the beautiful beaches of Maui!
